QUETTA, June 6: The Balochistan High Court Bar Association and the Balochistan Bar Council on Saturday demanded that a case registered against a political activist should be withdrawn.

BHCBA President Senator Amanullah Kanrani and BBC Vice-Chairman Malik Zahoor Ahmed Shahwani, speaking at a press conference on Saturday, condemned the registration of a case under Section 124-A against Balochistan National Movement Secretary-General Rahim Baloch.

They asserted that the constitution and law permitted the citizens to express their political views. They said that the leaders might be bitter in expressing their views against injustice because of deprivation, denial of constitutional rights and poverty in Balochistan.

They said the government never attempted to resolve the economic and social problems of people politically and take the country out of constitutional crisis but it always used state force to subdue the voice of those opposing the policies of the ruling junta.

They said it was a discrimination that Rahim Baloch, who had committed no crime, would be tried in an anti-terrorism court but the military ruler who kept the constitution in abeyance was not tried under Article 6 of the Constitution.

They stressed that the government must respect the political rights of the citizens. They warned that the implication of the government's opponents in false treason cases would make the situation worse, which would not be a good omen for the solidarity of the country.
