SHIKARPUR: Outlaw commits suicide to avoid arrest

SHIKARPUR, June 5: A notorious outlaw, Ghulam Nabi Brohi, allegedly involved in the murder of journalist Amir Bux Brohi, committed suicide by shooting himself during a police encounter near Jara Wah on Saturday.
Ghulam Nabi, resident of Garhi Yasin taluka, was on his way on a motorcycle with two accomplices when a police patrol took up the chase which led to an hour-long encounter, with the outlaws allegedly firing first.
Later, one of the outlaws, Mir Mohammad Jagirani, surrendered before the police while the other escaped.
Left alone and surrounded, Ghulam Nabi, chose to kill himself by shooting at his right temple with a pistol.
His body was handed over to his relatives by the Lakhi Ghulam Shah police after autopsy.
Five men - Ghazi Sanjrani, Waheed Brohi, Ghulam Nabi Brohi, Zulfiqar Brohi and Shahnawaz Brohi - were named in the murder case of journalist Brohi, but only Ghazi was arrested.
Speaking at a press conference, SP (investigations) Fida Hussain Mastoi told journalists that the deceased absconder was spotted by chance and chased, which ended with the death of the accused who opted to kill himself than surrender.
The SP claimed that the deceased outlaw was also wanted in the murder case of head constable Noor Ahmed Korai.
MISHAP: A woman, Waziran, wife of Khair Mohammad of Khabri village, was killed when a pick-up coming from Sukkur hit her on the Sukkur-Shikarpur road near C&S degree College on Saturday.
KARO-KARI: A woman was killed by her husband on the pretext of Karo-kari in Faqir Shahnawaz Brohi village, Khanpur taluka, late on Thursday night.
Moomal, 35, was shot dead by her husband, Mohammad Alam Jatoi, on the suspicion of having illicit relations with a man.
Brother of the deceased, maintaining that his sister was innocent, has lodged a murder case.
