GUJRANWALA, June 5: A senior official of the city tehsil council was beaten up by a UC Naib Nazim here on Saturday over an issue of the recruitment of daily wagers.

After the incident, all employees of the council went on strike and demanded registration of a case against the Nazim.

Various UC Naib Nazims reportedly inducted their supporters as daily wagers in the city tehsil council. City Nazim Babu Javed directed tehsil council chief engineer Azhar Mahboob Malik to prepare a list of all the staffers. Mr Mahboob asked UC-89/53 Naib Nazim Muhammad Wasim to provide him a list of the daily wagers after signing it. But he declined to do so and allegedly beat up the chief engineer following an exchange of hot words. However, the employees of the tehsil council rescued him and later went on pen-down strike.

Some Naib Nazims were trying to settle the issue till the filing of this report.
