Army called out in Sukkur to help police

SUKKUR, June 4: Army and Rangers personnel have been called out to assist police in an operation against outlaws in the Shah Belo forest, in which two more bandits were killed and four were injured on Friday.

This was stated by DIG Ramzan Channa of Sukkur police while talking to this correspondent on Sunday. He said that army helicopters were also being used in the operation. He said that the eight bandits killed in the operation were from the gang of Misrani Jatoi.

He said that the army had provided a bridge to police for crossing the river. Technical staff of the army was also accompanying police, he added. The DIG said that the plan was to surround the entire area and he also said the bandits had been given a last chance to surrender.

Area people said that police used mortars in the operation and also fired on the bandits hideouts from helicopters. The bandits had snatched a police motorboat.
