Foreign militants sent to prison

By Zulfiqar Ali

PESHAWAR, June 4: Two suspected Uzbek and four Afghan militants who were arrested in the North Waziristan tribal region on Thursday were shifted to Dera Ismail Khan central prison for interrogation, sources said.

Officials said that the suspects were handed over to the Joint Interrogation Team and shifted to Dera Ismail Khan. The security forces had arrested them at Dam Dail checkpoint in three connected incidents as they made attempts to cross the checkpoint.

A suspected Uzbek was killed when he lobbed hand-grenade on the personnel of Shawal Rifles at the checkpoint, some 45 kilometres west of Miramshah. Meanwhile, hawaldar Lal Marjan of the Shawal Rifles, who had received fatal injuries in the grenade attack, died in hospital late on Thursday, officials said.

The body was shifted to Parachinar, Kurram Agency, on Friday. The other two personnel wounded in the incident are stated to be in stable condition.
