KARACHI, June 3: The girl students of class VI, VII and VIII of government schools in the city would be handed over scholarship cheques on June 14, said an official of the city government education department.

An emergent meeting of educational officials of the city government was held on Thursday to discuss the ways of disbursements of amount to students who are already on summer vacations. The meeting was chaired by the Executive District Officer (Schools), Gul Muhammad Hajiano.

A source privy to the meeting said it was decided that cheques would be distributed through heads of schools. For this purpose, he said, female students would be called to gather at five different schools in each town.

When contacted, District Officer (Secondary and Higher Secondary) Wahab Abbasi said that City Nazim Naimatullah Khan had also confirmed the date. He said that the nazim would personally attend the cheques distribution ceremony at Mir Ayub Government Girls Secondary School, Lyari, on June 14.

Headmasters and headmistress would be asked to ensure maximum presence of deserving students on the day. The students failing to attend the school on June 14 would be handed over the cheques after summer vacations in August, he added. Wahab Abbasi said the meeting was told that 90 per cent of the cheques made in the name of students had been prepared by the city government staff.
