HYDERABAD, June 3: The district sessions judge, Zaheeruddin S. Leghari, on Thursday took on record a statement of Ayaz Latif Palijo, seeking action against irrigation and Water and Sanitation Agency officials for concealing facts regarding supply of contaminated water to people.
Mr Palijo had filed a human rights application, praying the court to take action against irrigation and Wasa officials and fix responsibility on them for supplying polluted water to people.
He filed the statement after the executive engineer, Kotri Barrage, Ejaz Shaikh, told the court that only 100 to 200 cusecs of water had been released from the Aral Wah into River Indus.
He said that earlier the official had told the court that water was released for 12 hours into the River Indus. Mr Palijo said that Wasa and irrigation authorities were changing their versions everyday and had concealed facts. The matter was adjourned till June 16 when the court would pass an order on the application.
ACTION AGAINST POLICE: The Sindh High Court, Hyderabad bench, on Thursday directed the district and sessions judge of Sanghar to take action on a complaint of a petitioner against police in accordance with law.
The order was passed on the petition, filed by Karim Bux, seeking registration of a criminal case against Sanghar policemen. The petitioner's counsel prayed the court that since the petitioner could not go to the Sanghar district for fear of arrest and implication in false cases, his application should be sent to the court. The court accepted his request.
Mr Bux said that on April 13 he and some other persons had taken out a procession against the transfer of Sanghar DPO Ameer Ali Shah. He alleged that the next day SI Mehboob Ali Magsi along with his three bothers, Ali Akbar, Anwar Ali and Mumtaz Ali, and a cousin, Dalail Magsi, arrived at his medical store and made a murderous attack on him.
He said that the respondent policemen, Nangar Khan Mehar and Mehboob Ali, resorted to indiscriminate firing, injuring him. He said that he went to the police station but his FIR was not registered. The petitioner prayed the court to direct the respondent police officers not to harass him and his relatives and to register his FIR.
