KARACHI: June 2: Pakistan junior squad is well prepared for the World Junior boxing championship to be held in Jeju, Korea from June 13 and good results are expected, said manager of the National junior boxing team Shah Naeem Zafar.

"The camp is going on at two different centres of Karachi and their performances in the training camp make one believe that they are going to achieve something great in the championship." Shah remarked.

Top five junior boxers from Pakistan will participate in the World Junior Championship for the first time and will fly on June 11 along with the manager and coach Khan Muhammad to Korea.

Shahid Khan (48 kg), Ali Mohammad (51 kg), Karar Hussain (57 kg), Mohammed Younis (60 kg) and Dur Mohammed (69 kg) would be competing in the tournament. Head coach of senior team Renaldo Alvaris has also joined the training camp after his return from pre-Olympics tournament in Athens and is coaching along with other coaches.

Pakistan Boxing Federation chief Prof Anwar Chowdhry, when asked about the preparations of the team, said, "They are quite well prepared for the event. However, they are going to face tough competitions."

He pointed out that Karar Hussain, cousin of Asghar Ali Shah, is their brightest prospect as he has very brave heart and good technique. PBF boss said that he is quite impressed with the potential and calibre of Karar Hussain and added that other four boxers are also capable of winning laurels in the championship. -PPI
