Zaheer quits

Published June 3, 2004

LONDON, June 2: India Test fast bowler Zaheer Khan has parted company with English county side Surrey after deciding he was not fit enough to play in their Championship game with Gloucestershire.

Zaheer joined the club last month as cover for the injured Pakistan off-spinner Saqlain Mushtaq, but had to play as an unpaid amateur because he did not have a work visa.

He took two wickets in his opening over in a National League game against Essex at The Oval. -Agencies
