KARACHI, June 2: The Pakistan Peoples Party, Sindh chapter, has decided to stage sit-in in each district of the province on Friday to deplore the terrorist attacks and to express solidarity with the masses.

This was announced by opposition leader Nisar Khuhro during a news conference on Wednesday. Deploring the recent acts of terrorism and government's failure to nab any of the culprits, Mr Khuhro accused the government of acting "irresponsibly and cowardly."

He declared that the PPP and components of the Alliance for the Restoration of Democracy (ARD) would participate in the sit- in, which would coincide with the countrywide strike call given by the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal.

When repeatedly asked by reporters whether his decision was meant for supporting the MMA's strike call, Mr Khuhro said the PPP as a political party had taken a decision to express solidarity with the brutalized people of Karachi, who had been left by the government at the mercy of terrorists.

He appealed to the political parties in other provinces to join in the expression of solidarity. However, he denied of having any contact with the MMA leadership in this regard.

Accusing the security agencies of failing in their duty, Mr Khuhro said that they had only released the sketches of possible killers while the real culprits behind any of the five blasts had not been arrested so far.

He demanded resignation of General Musharraf who according to him had guaranteed peace in Sindh while imposing a government of his own choice in the province. He said that Sindh had paid a heavy price for demanding its due share in resource distribution and rights of its people.
