Sit-in staged against killing of Mufti Shamzai

ISLAMABAD, May 31: Hundreds of protesters staged a sit-in here on Monday evening in front of Parliament House against the killing of Mufti Nizamuddin Shamzai in Karachi.

The protesters demanded removal of Sindh government and interior minister and alleged that the government was involved in the murder of Mufti Shamzai.

They were chanting slogans against the government and holding banners and placards inscribed with the slogans demanding the resignation of Sindh govt and interior minister and immediate arrest of culprits.

The protesters said the campaign "to oust the government has been started." Meanwhile, the Secretariat police has registered a report against the protesters, however, the FIR is yet to be registered, sources said. The police said at least 300 people participated in the sit-in, which was dispersed in 15 minutes.

Our Reporter adds: The National Assembly speaker, Chaudhry Amir Hussain, and the deputy speaker, Sardar Mohammad Yaqub, have condemned the killing of renowned religious scholar Mufti Nizamuddin Shamzai in an act of terrorism in Karachi.

The National Assembly speaker said Mufti Shamzai was a great religious leader and worked tirelessly throughout his life for the Muslim Ummah.
