DADU, May 31: Over 500 growers of different parts of the district held a demonstration in Khairpur Nathan Shah on Monday to protest against shortage of water in the Nara Distributary, Khuda Wah, Koodan Wah , Peejaro Shakh and the Kariro Shakh, originating from the Rice Canal, for six months.
They were led by taluka Sindh Abadgar Association president Abdul Ghani Qureshi and Khairpur Nathan Shah Citizens' Action Committee president Hafiz Hajjan Leghari.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Qureshi alleged that irrigation officials were selling water to influential landlords at the head of the canal and were not supplying water to the Nara Distributary, Khuda Wah, Koodan Wah, Peejaro Shakh and Kariro Shakh. He said that the water shortage had affected over 200,000 acres.
