By Our Correspondent

SHIKARPUR, May 31: Naib Nazim, Amrot Union Council, Maulvi Abdul Hayee Mekho, was shot dead by assailants and his two friends were injured near Garhi Yasin, Shikarpur district, on Monday.

Maulvi Mekho was going to Shikarpur from his village Nando Wah in a car with his friends, Abdul Rehman Mekho and Abdul Ghaffar. When they reached near Sherkot, 10 armed men intercepted the car at gunpoint and opened indiscriminate fire.

As a result, Maulvi Mekho was killed on the spot and Abdul Rehman and Abdul Ghaffar were seriously injured. Those injured were shifted to an area hospital. No case was registered till the filing of this report.

The assailants are said to belonging to the Khoso clan. It is said that earlier some Khoso clansmen tried to herd away some 20 heads of cattle from the house of Maulvi Mekho but the area people foiled the attempt.

Later, a jirga was held in which the Khosos were proved guilty and asked to pay a fine of Rs20,000. It is believed that the Khosos had taken revenge of the insult and killed Maulvi Mekho.
