KARACHI, May 30: Sindh Chief Minister Sardar Ali Mohammad Mahar on Sunday ordered a judicial inquiry by a Sindh High Court judge into murder of noted religious scholar Mufti Nizamuddin Shamzai.
Presiding over a meeting to review law and order situation at Chief Minister House, the Chief Minister said that no one would be allowed to disturb law and order in the province and in Karachi, in particular, and terrorists would be dealt strictly.
The meeting also decided to fix a Rs 2 million reward for those providing information leading to the arrest of assassins. Mahar directed the authorities concerned to arrest the killers of Mufti Nizamuddin Shamzai. He hoped that these assassins would be arrested like the other terrorists involved in terrorism in the city have been arrested recently.
The Chief Minister said Mufti Shamzai had a very high esteem among religious scholars and those who had killed him are anti-state and anti-people elements. Some anti-social elements want to fan sectarianism, but the government would foil all their nefarious designs, he added.
Mahar appealed to the law-abiding citizens to assist the government in this regard. He said the people should maintain unity and a peaceful atmosphere. The Chief Minister said that during one-and-a-half years of his government, the law and order situation in Karachi had improved. But now some anti-state elements want to disturb peace of the city through terrorist activities.
The meeting was also attended by Sindh Minister for Religious Affairs Irfan Gul Magsi, Sindh Chief Secretary Dr. Muttawakal Kazi, IGP Syed Kamal Shah, Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Syed Awaar Haider, Director General of Rangers, Principal Secretary of the Chief Minister Bakhshal Khan Gadaro, Secretary of Information Mehtab Akbar Rashdi, Joint Director of IB, DIG of Special Branch and other high officials.
CS ORDER: Chief Secretary Dr. Muttawakal Kazi on Sunday condemned the murder of the noted religious scholar Mufti Nizamuddin Shamzai by armed people and expressed grief and sorrow over the incident.
The chief secretary ordered the additional chief secretary and higher police officials to submit him a report and take steps to arrest the attackers. He also asked the concerned authorities to take steps to maintain law and order in the entire province.
The chief secretary said that action should be taken against the responsible government officials according to rules and regulations, if they are found in negligence of their duties.
The reaction on death of a noted scholar was natural, but he asked the concerned authorities to deal the situation amicably so that no untoward incident could occurs.
He said alternative traffic arrangements be made as the roads leading to Binnori Town are closed to control the situation. Dr. Kazi appealed to Ulema, Mashaikh and religious scholars to play their role to maintain law and order. He requested them to appeal their followers to be peaceful. -APP
