NOWSHERA, May 29: Maulana Samiul Haq, chief of his own faction of Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam and chairman of the Senate standing committee on religious affairs , has said that the Koocha Dheri incident where two women were paraded naked in the streets was one of the darkest incidents in the history of the Frontier province.

He was speaking during a visit to Koocha Dheri in Risalpur here to express solidarity with the family over the humiliation of the women.

MNA Hamidul Haq Haqqani, who is also the chairman of the National Assembly standing committee on local government and rural development, was also present on this occasion.

Maulana Sami demanded impartial inquiry into the incident, saying that the provincial government and the Nowshera police had failed to arrest the culprits despite the lapse of one month of the incident. He said the culprits behind the humiliation of the two women should be arrested immediately and exemplary punishment should be given to them.

He said that this heinous crime would cast a stain on the government of Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal, adding that it was not enough only to condemn the incident.

He said that the appointment of MMA general secretary Maulana Fazlur Rehman as the opposition leader in the National Assembly would test the religious alliance which had become a two-party affair.

Maulana Sam said that foreign pressure on Pakistan was increasing day by day, adding that the Afghanistan government authorities were spreading rumours that Osama bin Laden could be hiding either in Karachi or in Quetta.
