LAHORE, May 29: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) arrested on Saturday two film producers from Evernew Studio for human smuggling. Assistant director (passport cell) Iftikhar Najmi told Dawn that producers Riaz Gujjar and Shahzad Gujjar had taken Rs1 million from a woman , Seemab Bokhari, on the promise of sending her to London.

He said the producers had to take her abroad by including her in a cultural troupe.

During investigation, it revealed that the accused had already taken money from various people on the pretext of getting them role in their new film, said Mr Najmi.

However, a case has been registered against the accused under the Prevention and Control Human Trafficking Ordinance 2002.

ARREST: The FIA claim to have arrested 16 human smugglers from different parts of the province this month.

He said some 65 investigations were finalized and submitted to the court in May.
