No operation planned in Dera Bugti: CM

By Our Staff Correspondent

QUETTA, May 28: Balochistan Chief Minister Jam Mir Mohammad Yousuf said on Friday that the government had no plan to launch an operation in Dera Bugti. "All reports regarding an operation in Dera Bugti are baseless," he told newsmen after attending the provincial literary awards ceremony.

He said Governor Owais Ahmed Ghani would visit Dera Bugti soon to meet Jamhuri watan Party chief Nawab Akbar Khan Bugti. Replying to a question, the chief minister said the government would take action against those involved rocket attacks on security checkpoints, gas wells and pipelines in Sui.

He said destruction of gas pipelines was causing loss of millions of rupees to the national exchequer. "The government will take action against such elements," Jam Yousuf said but added that it did not mean that an operation would be launched against Nawab Bugti.

Responding to a question, he said President Gen Pervez Musharraf had held out the assurance that the old National Finance Commission award would not be implemented and all the provinces would be given more funds to meet their requirements.

However, he said, the provinces could not reach a consensus on the distribution of federal resources as they had differences over the next NFC award's formula. "The provinces will get sizable funds in the next budget," he said.

Preparation of the provincial budget had been started and the government had decided to drop all non-productive projects which could not be implemented during the current financial year.

He said the projects would be replaced with new development schemes. Replying to a question, he said there was no pressure of ministers and treasury MPAs on the provincial government for induction of their development schemes on a priority basis in the budget. "We will not ignore any area or district in the next year's development programme." Jam Yousuf said.
