KARACHI: Ibad orders removal of KWSB valvemen
KARACHI, May 28: Sindh Governor Dr. Ishratul Ibad on Friday ordered the managing director of Karachi Water and Sewerage Board, Brig Iftikhar Haider, to immediately replace all the staff associated with the valve-operation in Karachi.
He gave these orders during his five-hour-long visit to many localities of Karachi to review the pace of development work on many projects. During his visit to Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai Road in Lyari Town, people apprised him of the poor sanitary conditions, dilapidated roads and scarcity of water.
They bitterly criticized the town administration and urged the governor to issue directives for the redressal of their grievances. The governor expressed his resentment over heaps of garbage accumulated on Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai Road and ordered the TMO of Lyari to remove litter from the road within an hour.
He also directed the KWSB chief to take immediate steps for provision of water to residents of Lyari Town. He also visited the SITE office of Karachi Northern Bypass and Lyari Expressway and reviewed development work on both the projects.
During a briefing by the NHA officials, he asked them to continue work in double shifts and try to complete the work prior to execution time. The governor also visited the Hawkes Bay Road to review the pace of work on its dualization/ improvement and also directed the staff to pace up the development work and complete it before schedule to facilitate masses.
During his visit to the Rural Health Centre in Baldia Town, he was informed about efforts for upgradation of the centre into a 50-bed hospital. He directed town administration to improve sanitary conditions in the area and directed the KWSB officials to ensure uninterrupted supply of water.
People of Jam Nagar in Baldia town apprised the governor of the scarcity of water in the area and said that the valve-operation staff of the KWSB was responsible for causing acute shortage of water.
The governor immediately ordered replacement of all the staff associated with valve-operation in Karachi, saying complaints against present valve-operation staff was growing and people were expressing resentment over their performance.
In SITE Town, Dr. Ishratul Ibad Khan expressed his annoyance on poor sewerage system and ordered for its improvement within days. He also visited the Metroville road to the review pace of development work and ordered for day and night work to complete the project on time.
During his visit to review dualization of Shaheed Sibghatullah Shah Road (Dalmia road) and Ibrahim Rehmatullah Road (Karsaz Road) he expressed his delight over pace of development work. City Nazim Naimatullah Khan joined the governor at that moment and briefed him about both the schemes.
The governor also directed the concerned officials to initiate consultancy on re-construction of Mirza Adam Khan road from Dhobi Ghat to Mauripur road in Lyari. Later, briefing newsmen at Sindh Governor House, who accompanied him during his visit, he said City District Government Karachi was doing its job "satisfactorily", however, problems were so much that they need coordinated efforts to resolve. -PPI
