ISLAMABAD, May 27: The ruling Pakistan Muslim League president Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain on Thursday expressed confidence that the recent change of government in India will not derail the peace process initiated between the two countries during the BJP regime.

Talking to newsmen at the party headquarters, the PML president said that Pakistan was prepared to resolve all issues with its neighbour through a composite dialogue.

He warned that no-one would be allowed to sabotage the process of normalization started by General Musharraf with New Delhi and every step would be taken to promote it further.

With reference to recent incidents of terror attacks in Karachi, Mr Shujaat said Pakistan was faced with terrorism for quite some time "which could be eradicated only by implementing President Musharraf's agenda" with the cooperation of the nation.

He said police alone should not be expected to stop terror incidents. "It needs comprehensive planning by involving all the agencies and the nation to foil the designs of saboteurs of public peace," he remarked.

Replying to a question, he said people will be provided with maximum relief in the next fiscal budget. The party had set up a special cell for the purpose of preparing recommendations which will be handed over to Finance Minister Shaukat Aziz who will soon visit the party offices. He will brief the party on the salient features of the coming budget.

Mr Shujaat asked the PPP to shun its policy of confrontation and demonstrate some decency in politics "for we have decided to end all sorts of confrontation with the opposition."

About naming of the remaining party portfolios, the PML chief said: "The process will hopefully be completed in the next two weeks in consultation with the provincial party presidents".

He said that in the first stage the leaders of smaller factions as well as the National Alliance had been adjusted by nominating their heads as senior vice-presidents while the main PML-Q group would be accommodated in the final stage.

About the nomination of Mushahid Hussain Syed as party secretary-general, who took charge of his office on Thursday, the party president said: "The decision was taken by consensus as the party leadership had found Mr Mushahid to be more worker-friendly".
