SRINAGAR, May 26: Four India army soldiers were killed in an overnight gunbattle with members of a Mujahideen group in occupied Kashmir, police said on Wednesday.
The clash between the army and Hizbul Mujahideen men came after a senior security official said Hizb was likely to launch more revenge attacks in occupied Kashmir after the group claimed responsibility for a bomb attack that killed 29 people on Sunday.
A police spokesman said the clash began when the Mujahideen hiding in a house hurled grenades and sprayed bullets at troops during a search in Nelipora, in the district of Kupwara northwest of Srinagar.
He said the search was continuing. Four policemen and two Mujahideen have been killed in separate shootouts in the past 24 hours, police said.-Reuters
