KARACHI, May 26: Bodies of the three Pakistani fishermen, who were killed by Indian coast guards recently, arrived here from Mumbai on Wednesday and were sent to their native villages in ambulances.

The victims were residents of villages in Keti Bandar and Shah Bandar. Relatives of the fishermen received the bodies at Karachi airport where vice-chairman of the Fishermen Cooperative Society (FCS) Abuzar Mariwala was also present with other officials of the Society.

The fishermen, Mohammad son of Qasim, Saleh son of Ali Murad and Jabir son of Ahmed, had been killed while fishing near Sir Creek deep-sea waters of Keti Bandar on May 17.

Their boat, Al-Shahenshah bearing registration number 10847-B and carrying a crew of nine, had left Keti Bandar on May 13. One of the fishermen, Ali Murad, is still under treatment at Jam Nagar Hospital (India) whereas four others, Hamza, Ibrahim, Ahmed Usman and Jumman, have been kept in Jam Nagar Prison.

Mariwala told newsmen at the airport that the Sindh Fisheries Minister and Chairman of the FCS, Sardar Manzoor Panhwar, had recommended payment of compensation to the bereaved and in this regard, had spoken to the Chief Minister, Ali Mohammad Mahar. The FCS will also pay compensation to the bereaved families, he said. -APP
