KARACHI, May 25: Chief Minister Sardar Ali Mohammad Mahar on Tuesday directed heads of law-enforcement agencies to adopt an effective strategy to utilizing all available resources in maintaining peace in the province.

"Sindh is a peaceful province but certain elements are trying to disturb the peace," said Mr Mahar, warning that all their efforts would be foiled and action would be taken without any discrimination to ensure peace and tranquillity.

Presiding over a high-level meeting at the CM's House on law and order, Mr Mahar impressed upon the heads of the agencies to ensure that no untoward incident took place in any part of the province.

Reminding them that disturbances in Karachi affects a lot of people, he stressed the need for focusing on the metropolis in maintaining peace. The meeting also reviewed the situation in Hyderabad in the wake of the outbreak of water-borne diseases due to supply of contaminated water.

The chief minister told the meeting that he had visited hospitals in Hyderabad where patients were being treated at government's expenses. An inquiry would be conducted into the matter and on the basis of its report, action would be taken against those responsible, he added.

Adviser to the CM on Home Affairs Aftab Ahmed Shaikh, Minister for Education Irfanullah Marwat, Chief Secretary Dr Mutawakkil Qazi, Additional Chief Secretary Home Syed Anwar Haider, Secretary Information Mahtab Akbar Rashdi, IGP Syed Kamal Shah, CCPO and DG Rangers were among those who attended the meeting. -PPI
