QUETTA: Bolan dist nazim elected

QUETTA, May 24: Sardar Khan Rind, son of Federal Agriculture and Food Minister Sardar Yar Mohammad Rind, has been elected Bolan district nazim. He secured 246 votes while his rival, Mir Hamayun Kurd, got 168 votes.

In elections for vacant seats of nazims, naib nazims and councillors in the province, Mir Younus Aziz Zehri was elected Khuzdar tehsil nazim, Ghulam Haider Bangulzai Dhadar tehsil nazim and Ghulam Hussain Bela tehsil naib nazim.

Runoff election would be held for the posts of Musakhel district naib nazim and Sibi tehsil nazim on May 30 as the leading candidates failed to secure the required 51 per cent votes there.

For the Musakhel district naib nazim's post, runoff election would be held between Maulvi Sarwar Nadeem, backed by the Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam (Fazl), and Taimur Shah, supported by the Pukhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party.

The councillors elected on vacant seats of various category include Hina Gul, Zulikhan, Bibi Rashida and Bibi Zovera in Pishin on women's seats and Mohammad Qasim Barkhan on labourers' and peasants' seat; Lal Bibi, Zahra Bibi, Zartara Bibi in Musakhail on women's seats and Maulvi Hasan Khan on labourer' and peasants' seat, Zarina Bibi in Mastung and Hanifa Bibi in Khuzdar on women's seats.
