Govt to thwart bid to foment sectarian terrorism: Ibad

KARACHI, May 22: Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan said here on Saturday that the government would foil any attempt aimed at fomenting sectarian terrorism.

"People want to live with unity, cohesion and mutual understanding for which they gave a practical demonstration on various occasions."

He was talking to a delegation of Yaum-i-Mustafa Committee, led by its chairman Jaffer Bilgrami, which met him at the Governor's House on Saturday.

He said that the government would ensure a conducive law and order situation in the province with the cooperation and collective efforts of the people.

The governor said that certain elements tried to exploit the Hyderi Mosque tragedy for sectarian violence, but they could not succeed.

In this regard, he saluted the people belonging to Shia and Sunni sects who thwarted such attempts.

The way people offering Jumma prayers in the adjoining Sunni mosque came to the help of their Shia brethren, provides a practical proof to the fact, the governor observed and added that throughout the province, including Karachi, the government was making all-out efforts to maintain law and order without any discrimination.

He told the delegation that the government was in contact with the people belonging to all sects and they provide cooperation at every stage.

Dr Ishratul Ibad said the Ulema are respected in society and hoped that while today terrorism is faced everywhere in the world, the Ulema would hopefully play their due role.

"We can achieve an elated and respectful position in the world by following the principles of tolerance, harmony, mutual understanding and respect as taught by Islam."

Jaffer Bilgrami said that his organization was going to organize an Ittehad Bainul Muslimeen Conference with the joint participation of Ulema of Pakistan and India.

In this regard, a delegation is going to India next week to meet the Ulema there and invite them to the conference.

The governor assured of every possible cooperation in the holding of the conference and hoped that it would prove a milestone in the efforts being made by Ittehad Bain-ul-Muslimeen.-APP
