MULTAN: Judicial probe into gang-rape ordered

MULTAN, May 22: District and Sessions Judge Malik Azharul Haq Awan on Saturday asked magistrate Shahid Islam to conduct a judicial inquiry into the alleged gang-rape of two women and sought report within a month.

The application for judicial inquiry was filed by DPO Hamid Mukhtar Gondal who termed the matter sensitive after rape victims alleged policemen were also among the accused.

SI Azmat told the court he visited victims' house twice and found it locked and also could not find them at hospital when court asked him about the reasons behind not recording the statements of the victims.

Meanwhile, police said, the identification parade of two accused, already arrested in this case would be held on May 25.

On an application of the victims, additional district and sessions Judge Falak Sher Farooka ordered police to add another section to the FIR as per the statement of the victims recorded before the magistrate under section 164 Cr.P.C.

The victims had requested the judge that they be mentioned as the complainants in the FIR instead of the SHO, New Multan police station, and that the section 11/7/79, relating to kidnapping and rape be also added into the FIR which was registered under section 10(4)/7/79 only.

The rape victims had alleged they were assaulted at a police station by six accused, including four policemen, after being kidnapped from Masoom Shah Road early Friday last (May 15) when they were returning from a marriage ceremony.

Police, however, said, no policeman was involved in the matter and added that they had arrested two accused involved in the matter who had been sent to jail on judicial remand for identification parade.-APP
