Singh may be sworn in today

NEW DELHI, May 21: India's new government was facing problems even before its ministers were to be sworn in with some extensive talks on Friday between the Congress Party and its allies on cabinet posts.

Prime minister-designate Manmohan Singh is scheduled to be sworn in on Saturday evening, but on Friday it was still unclear who his ministers would be.

The only thing certain was that Mr Singh will have a large council of ministers - anywhere between 60 to 80 - to placate both Congress MPs and the rest of the coalition. -dpa
