GILGIT, May 21: Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) chairman Amanullah Khan has said they will go to any extent in resisting the divide of Kashmir.
Speaking at a gathering of his party men and journalists here on Friday, he denounced what he said efforts to divide Kashmir between India and Pakistan.
"So far we have seen that Islamabad and New Delhi are agreed to declare the LoC as a permanent border. But this is not acceptable to freedom loving Kashmiris and only an Independent Kashmir is the solution to this issue," the JKLF chief said.
"We also condemn the sectarian frenzy in Gilgit-Baltistan," he said. In reply to a question, the JKLF leader said they were in favour of annexing Gilgit-Baltistan in the Independent Kashmir where the people of this region would be allowed to share the porfolios of prime minister and president.
STUDENT'S PROTEST: Students belonging to the Shia community blocked the Karakoram Highway (KKH) for four hours in Nagar and Danyore areas on Friday morning to protest against existing syllabi.
It was due to this move that traffic between Hunza and Gilgit remained suspended for four hours, sources said. Protesters said Northern Areas officials and Shia leaders had held negotiation till Thursday night in Gilgit to find an amicable solution to frame a proposal for allowing Shia and Sunni students to study their separate Islamiat textbooks.
"Though a workable proposal has come up in this regard, its implementation will be made possible only when the federal government allows this formula," an official who attended the negotiations said.
