MIRPURKHAS, May 21: Many people were injured when police resorted to a baton- charged around 300 residents who were protesting against the non-supply of drinking water to their areas on Friday.

The residents of Pak, Rajar and Ghosia colonies and Baloch para blocked the main roads and burnt tyres. They raised slogans against UC-5 Nazim Syed Qurban Ali Shah alias Jani Shah, councillors, Taluka Nazim Syed Inayat Ali Shah and TMO and demanded that water should be supplied to their areas.

They refused to disperse despite requests by the Town police and traffic remained suspended on roads for two and half hours, causing hardships to the people. On this police restored to a baton charge in which many protestors were injured.

Speaking on the occasion, the protesters said no officer was ready to hear their grievances thought they made repeated complaints to the TMO and Taluka Nazim for non-supply of water to their localities.

They said that water was available in water reservoirs and warned that if it was not supplied to their areas, they would be compelled to launch a protest campaign against authorities.
