KARACHI, May 21: An activist of Muttahida Qaumi Movement was shot dead outside his house in Malir late Thursday night. Police said Muhammad Shakil Patel, 34, was standing outside his house in Mehran Goth within Malir City police station limits when unidentified persons shot him and fled on a motorcycle.

The victim was taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre where he was pronounced dead on arrival. In Sohrab Goth, a young man was shot dead and his associate injured when unidentified persons opened fire on them.

Police said the incident occurred soon after Friday prayers when Haji Mir Qaum Khan, 40, and Maqsood Khan were going in a taxi (PG-3340). When they reached near Al-Asif Square, unidentified gunmen sprayed the vehicle with bullets.

Mir Khan died on the spot, while Maqsood Khan was injured. Police said the two victims had a land dispute with some party in Dera Ismail Khan.

BODY RECOVERED: The body of a seven-year-old boy, who was earlier kidnapped from University Road, was found from a storm water drain late Thursday night. Police said that Umair had gone missing on April 10, when he was playing outside Nadeem Arcade located on the main University Road.

Following his disappearance, the boy's father, Mr Hanif lodged a report at the New Town police station. A week later, Mr Hanif received a ransom call demanding Rs1 million.

Hanif informed the police and CPLC, however, Mr Hanif with the help of some of his friends managed to trace the kidnapper, identified as Shafqat, a security guard at the same building.

Police picked up the suspect, who during interrogation revealed that he had killed the child and dumped his body into a storm water drain. The police later recovered the body, which was stuffed in a plastic bag and decomposed.

BODY FOUND: The body of a young man was recovered in Lyari on Friday night.
