LAHORE, May 19: PML-N acting president Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan is scheduled to go to Jeddah on Saturday to brief Mian Nawaz Sharif and Mian Shahbaz Sharif on the decisions taken by the party's central working committee on Wednesday, party sources say.
The sources said that a proposal that the PML-N should try to gather all anti-establishment parties on a single platform came under discussion. The proposal was reportedly made by Faisalabad's Rana Sanaullah Khan, who is deputy opposition leader in the Punjab Assembly.
He is said to have informed the meeting that alliance or the merger of all anti-establishment forces was the only way to counter the pro-establishment elements, who had already unified with the PML under the leadership of Chaudhry Shujaat Husain.
The proposer was of the view that since the PML-N was the major anti-establishment party at present, it was in a better position to take other like-minded parties along.
He said that the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal, the Awami National Party and the Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaaf should be approached for cooperation against the government.
According to sources, it was proposed at the meeting that the party should prepare itself to face the situation after Gen Musharraf takes off his military uniform by the end of the current year.
The party took exception to the arrests/ detentions of the PML-N leaders and workers during the past few weeks. The participants were of the view that in case the Punjab government did not release all detainees immediately, opposition legislators would protest in the forthcoming session of the Punjab Assembly. It is said that the party MPAs could also decide to court arrests in case the detainees are not set free.
