By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, May 19: Armed men looted Rs3.8 million cash and gold worth over Rs1.4 million from a bank in Gulshan-i-Iqbal on Wednesday. The police said some six armed men entered the branch of National Bank , located on the premises of the Federal Urdu University on the main University Road, through a side-gate meant for the bank, Town police officer SSP Abdul Khaliq Shaikh said.

A duty officer of the Aziz Bhatti police station said that all the six suspects who entered the bank at around 9.30am were armed. They held the staff at gunpoint and took cashier Shahid Asghar and his assistant Ismail, who had the keys, to the vault.

After opening the vault they collected cash worth Rs3.819 million in large bags and gold weighing 2kg worth over Rs1.454 million. Police said the robbers then locked the entire staff in a small room before fleeing.
