MOSCOW, May 19: A former Russian intelligence officer who accused the Federal Security Service of staging apartment bombings in 1999 that killed some 300 people and led to the war in Chechnya was jailed on Wednesday for four years.
"He has been sentenced to four years," Mikhail Trepashkin's lawyer Yelena Liptser said after her client was convicted of revealing state secrets. "We will definitely appeal the decision," she added.
He was also convicted of illegally possessing ammunition, Liptser said. The authorities have not made clear what state secrets Trepashkin is supposed to have divulged. -AFP
