Miandad hurt by PCB attitude

By Our Sports Correspondent

LAHORE, May 18: Pakistan coach Javed Miandad feels deeply hurt by Pakistan Cricket Board's (PCB) attitude after the loss to India. "Since the conclusion of the series PCB has been raising questions on the performance of the team management while clearing skipper Inzamamul Haq.

Now they are talking of the two-year contract with me", Miandad said while talking to Dawn on Tuesday. "It hurts me deeply when people challenge my integrity and honesty.

I want respect and nothing else," Miandad said he was doing his duty honestly and the board should ask the players adding that the board should have thought twice before signing the contract with him. But once the contract was inked, the board should have trusted him.

"I joined the team when it was in a rebuilding stage last year and during this period Pakistan did achieve favourable results apart from the loss to India", he stressed. He pointed out that West Indies lost to England at home but no body challenged the performance of the team management or demanded its resignation" he added.

Miandad claimed that rebuilding takes time but the success rate of our Pakistan team was satisfactory but of course there was always room for further improvement. The coach said that he was going to meet the PCB chairman on Wednesday to discuss several issues concerning his job as well as future planning of the team.
