'Opposition leader should be from MMA'

By Our Staff Reporter

RAWALPINDI, May 18: The opposition leader should be nominated from the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA) as it is the biggest political grouping in the parliament.

This demand was made by the MMA deputy secretary-general, Liaquat Baloch, in a meet-the-press programme held at Rawalpindi Press Club on Tuesday.

Mr Baloch said the MMA had majority in the parliament with 68 members in the National Assembly and 22 in the Senate. The MMA leader took exception to the delay in formation of parliamentary committees and asked the government to form these committees as soon as possible.

He said the government had announced convening of the National Assembly session between May 10 and May 24 but so far there was uncertainty about whether or not it would be held.
