HARIPUR, May 17: PML-N's central executive council member Yusuf Ayub Khan has said that the days of Musharraf regime are numbered and his 'undemocratic rule' would come to an end by Dec 31.
Speaking at a news conference at the Haripur Press Club on Sunday, Mr Khan said that Gen Pervez Musharraf would have to shed his military uniform by Dec 31, otherwise he would be forced by the ARD to do so.
"We have finalized our future line of action in case Gen Musharraf violates the agreement reached with the MMA on this issue," the PML-N leader said and added that his supporters in the PML-Q would meet the same fate as did Ayub Khan's Convention League.
In reply to a question, the PML-N leader said that although personally he was in favour of an election alliance for the formation of a future government having both the PML-N and the PPP, the decision power in this regard was rested with the ARD rather than with any single party.
Mr Khan asserted that only true democratic forces could ensure a genuine democratic government in the country. He said that the country had already lost most of its time in a debate over democracy and the time had come to put an end to the military's role in the national politics once and for all.
Yusuf Ayub, who is nephew of former National Assembly speaker Gohar Ayub, said that if it again came into power the PML-N would not strike a deal with the establishment, rather it would ask the armed forces to focus on their constitutional duty of defending geographical boundaries of the country.
He also condemned the deportation of PML-N president Shahbaz Sharif, and termed it a negation of the SC's judgment. Lashing out at the Rawalpindi police, Mr Khan claimed that the police arrested and beat PML-N workers who were on their way to Lahore to welcome Shahbaz Sharif.
He said workers from other parts of the country had been released, but 118 party workers from the NWFP were still behind bar. He demanded release of detained party workers.
