GIFU, May 16: India's men's team overwhelmed China 4-0 while their women's team bowed to South Korea 3-0 in the Prince Takamado Cup hockey tournament that was dogged by rain on Sunday.
In a game that started in light rain, India's men threatened the Chinese side repeatedly from the outset, both sides having trouble with their passing play. Arjun Halappa opened the scoring in the 22nd minute as the rain started to falling harder.
A pushing shot from Inderjeet Singh off a penalty corner in the 26th minute was saved by Chinese goalkeeper Xiang Fei, but Singh struck home in front of the Chinese goal mouth on a cross from the right in the 31st.
India exchanged passes quickly and Girish Pimpale cashed in on a penalty corner in the 40th minute. Adam Sinclair was set free in the 49th minute to complete the scoring, forcing the Chinese settle at bottom in the four-team competition.
In the women's contest, Kim Song-Un scored twice and Li Mi-Song once as South Korea defeated India for their second win against one loss. -AFP
