KARACHI, May 15: Adviser to Chief Minister on Information and Archives Salahuddin Haider has denied the charges levelled by a political party against Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad.

In a statement issued here on Saturday, he asked the Jamaat-i-Islami chief to verify facts before hurling charges against holder of a responsible office.

He maintained that the governor was a victim of wild accusations since the day he assumed office. But, fortunately for people of the province, he proved himself worthy of trust reposed in him. He said that the governor had set new traditions of good governance.

Salahuddin Haider said: "The charge against him (the governor) of setting up an election cell for a particular party at Governor's House was absurd. The governor, as a nominee of federal government, was responsible for maintaining law and order in the province, a responsibility which he has been discharging with sincerity and devotion and without any bias or political discrimination."

Referring to demands for his dismissal, he said such statement could only cause "disruption in efforts being made by the government to promote Pakistan as a peaceful country". -PPI
