KASUR, May 15: Six lawyers, including Pattoki bar president, and four revenue officials sustained injuries in a clash here on Saturday.

Sources said Malik Ashraf advocate along with his two colleagues visited the office of Naib Tehsildar Chaudhry Allah Wasaya and allegedly forced him to do an illegal work, but he refused them.

They reportedly beat him up and escaped. City Pattoki police registered a case against the lawyers on the complaint of Mr Wasaya.

To resolve the issue, Pattoki Bar Association President Asif Chaudhry along with other lawyers visited Deputy District Officer (revenue) Mohammad Arshad Zahid where hot words were exchanged between them.

Meanwhile, the lawyers took out a protest procession and chanted slogans against the revenue officers. In the meantime, revenue staff, members of the All Pakistan Clerks Association (APCA) and a large number of patwaris gathered on local court premises where a clash erupted in which clubs and stones were used

Bar office-bearers Asif Chaudhry, Rashid Khan, Saifullah, Ghulam Sarwar, Mian Dilbar, and Zulfiqar Ali Chaudhry and revenue's Arshad Zahid, Allah Wasaya, Mohammad Iqbal and Jafar Ali sustained injuries.

A heavy police contingent along with the Elite Force reached the spot and dispersed them.

When contacted, Pattoki DSP Yahya Hassan Virk told Dawn by phone that both the sides had filed complaints, but he was trying his best for a patch-up.

On the other hand, the APCA office-bearers and patwaris of Kasur, led by Rana Muhammad Akram, took out a protest procession against the 'rude behaviour' of Pattoki lawyers and demanded registration of a case against them.

Later, the Kasur district bar association at a meeting held here warned of strike from May 17 (Monday) if the police did not register a case against the APCA and patwaris.

Kasur DCO Hashim Tareen said a committee had been constituted to iron out differences between the groups.
