HYDERABAD: Delay in fund release deplored

Bureau Report

HYDERABAD, May 15: Dadu District Nazim Malik Asad Sikandar has threatened to join a protest movement being launched by the nazims and councillors if funds for taluka and union councils of his area are not released in a week.

He was speaking to elected representatives of Kotri and Thano Bula Khan at his Kotri residence on Saturday.

He said that despite repeated assurances by the Sindh governor, chief minister and secretary and finance secretary, funds amounting to Rs140 million were not released even after lapse of one year.

He said that the government had greatly disappointed him and it appeared as if his resignation was expected.

Appealing to President General Pervez Musharraf to intervene in the matter, he said that district governments were facing a host of problems.

Mr Sikandar said that a scheme for supplying clean water to Kotri town had been completed on the KB Feeder canal.
