PSF to hold trials for World Junior Championship

ISLAMABAD, May 14: Air Chief Marshal Kaleem Saadat, the head of Pakistan Squash Federation (PSF) together with national coaches Jamshed Gul and Rehmat Khan on Friday discussed ways to effectively train players for the World Junior Championship.
The meeting which was also attended by PSF secretary Wng Cdr Sajid Waheed decided to hold trials for five of the nine players who had been selected earlier in Lahore.
Except for the top players Khalid Atlas, Yasir Butt, Farhan Mahboob and Basit Ishfaq, the remaining five - Farzan Rashid, Amir Atlas, Shahnawaz, Bilal Zaman and Aqib Hanif will go through trials.
Following the trials that will take place after the Balochistan National Junior Championship in Quetta starting later in the month, two players would be picked. They will be chosen as a backup for the individual event of the World Junior Championship due to run in Islamabad between Aug 16-27.
The juniors are being trained byRehmat Khan for the championship in which 24 teams are likely to take part. Jamshed Gul, the coach of the senior string has offered to help out once the Asian Championship in Kuala Lumpur ends next month.
According to plans, the juniors in the first phase of their training will work on enhancing their endurance in Abbottabad for about two weeks.
They will also be made to play against the senior players as part of their training.
