KARACHI: ATC told to dispose of murder case


KARACHI, May 14: Justice Shabbir Ahmed of the Sindh High Court, who is also administrative judge of the anti-terrorism courts in Karachi, directed the judge of ATC-V to dispose of killing case against six activists of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement in accordance with the law.

Judge Haq Nawaz Baloch of ATC-V had earlier referred back the double murder case through reference for further instructions to the Sindh High Court.

MQM's activists Salman Ilyas alias Saleem Raju, Sohail alias Kala Munna, Muhammad Adeel, Shafiq Arain, Irshad Kantap and Abdul Fahmeed were sentenced to death and 14-year RI by ATC on Dec 15, 1999 for kidnapping and killing two army personnel, Lance Naik Ahmed Yar Khan and Sepoy Muhammad Idrees.

According to the prosecution, the army men were kidnapped from Firdous Shopping Centre in Liaquatabad on July 27, 1998. Later, their bullet-riddled bodies were found in a nearby graveyard.-PPI
