PPP seeks Senate debate on ties with India

By Our Staff Reporter

ISLAMABAD, May 13: A number of issues pertaining to Pakistan-India ties, Hamoodur Rehman Commission report, civil-military relations and prisoners' rights will come up for discussion in the next session of Senate if the resolutions and motions submitted by the PPP are allowed.

One of the motions calls upon the house to discuss the Indo-Pakistan conflict of 1999 with a view to drawing 'appropriate lessons' from it to strengthen the defence capability.

Another motion while appreciating the publication of the Hamoodur Rehman commission report, seeks a debate on it. PPP Senator Farhatullah Babar has submitted a resolution which is likely to be taken up on a private member's day.

The resolution proposes that a parliamentary committee be appointed to look into the problems being faced by the tenants of the state lands in Punjab and recommend solution of those issues.

Another resolution reads: "This house recommends that all serving and retired armed forces officers posted in civil departments on contract or deputation against posts reserved for civilians should be removed or repatriated".
