KARACHI: Muttahida activist shot dead

KARACHI, May 13: An activist of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement was shot dead by unknown persons, and his body was found in Gadap early Thursday morning.
Police said that the victim was identified as Nadeem Ahmed, 30, a resident of Shah Faisal Colony. Unknown persons had pumped two bullets in his head and neck.
He was missing since Wednesday night. His body was recovered from bushes in Dur Mohammad Goth, Gadap. The body was removed to the JPMC. Senior officials of the party reached the hospital when the post-mortem examination was being carried out.
ESCAPED: Two suspects escaped from the police lockup of the Sir Syed police station early on Thursday morning. A duty officer of the Sir Syed police station said that two suspects Saeed Zaman and Faisal were on remand, they escaped after dislocating a grill in the lockup.
He said that the lockup grill was already weak and the two suspects took advantage by removing it from its place. "There were few police officers on duty at the police station and they might have been asleep", he remarked.
The two suspects were booked for engaging in a police encounter and carrying illegal weapons. They were arrested by the police on May 10. A case was registered against police constable Patras while the duty officer was suspended. The police were making raids in an effort to re-arrest the two suspects.
CRUSHED: An unknown young man died after being hit by a locomotive at the Cantonment railway station. Police said body was taken to the Civil Hospital for post-mortem examination. Later the body was shifted to the Edhi morgue for identification.
