PESHAWAR: Students advised to pay attention to study

PESHAWAR, May 13: The Vice Chancellor of Peshawar University, Lt-Gen (rtd) Mumtaz Gul has stressed upon the students to devote their energies on education to meet the 21st century challenges and put the country on the path of progress.

Speaking at the annual prize distribution ceremonyof University Public School here on Thursday, he said the school was the first seat of learning and has a pivotal role in character building and development of the child personality. Teachers should teach them with dedication and commitment, he added.

Mr Gul asked the students to focus on their studies and brush aside all other distractions so they will be able to achieve their goals. He congratulated the position holders and expressed his hope that it will be an inspiration for those who could not take positions.

He lauded the role and achievements of the school and expressed the hope that the school would further improve its standard of education.

POETRY COMPETITION: A poetry competition among students of Peshawar University was held here at Agha Khan auditorium on Thursday. The programme was organised by Khyber Literary Club in which students from departments and constituent colleges of the university participated.

Dr Sabir Hussain Kaloori, former head of Urdu department was chief guest while Dr Mohammad Azam, Director Pushto Adabi Board presided the competition. Young poets recited their poetry in Pushto and Urdu which was highly appreciated by the audience.

In Pushto poetry Nawaz Khan of sociology department got first position, Amirzeb Shabab of anthropology took second position while Ali Afridi and Mohammad Amin Tanha of Pushto department got third and fourthposition respectively.

In Urdu poetry, Ghufranullah Jami of geography department got first position, Owais Qarni of Urdu department was declared second, Taseer Khan of Islamia college took third and Khushnood Rahman of botany department got fourth position.

Abaseen Yousafzay, in charge of students societies, in his address of welcome said co-curricular activities helped build students personality. He said that all the societies of the university were actively involved in arranging such programmes.
