Probe against Atapattu dropped
COLOMBO, May 11: Sri Lanka's cricket board on Tuesday dropped an investigation into national captain Marvan Atapattu after a large sum of money was found in his hotel room.
The board said in a statement that investigations by the Anti-Corruption and Security Unit of the International Cricket Council had confirmed there was "insufficient evidence to proceed".
An article in the Sunday Observer reported that a hotel employee had found 1.1 million rupees ($11,145) in a room occupied by Atapattu shortly after Sri Lanka's second Test against England in Kandy in December. Atapattu denied owning the money. He is leading Sri Lanka on the current tour to Zimbabwe. -Reuters
