PESHAWAR: Killer gets life term

BY Bureau Report

PESHAWAR, May 11: Additional district and sessions judge Younus Khan on Tuesday convicted a man of killing a boy and sentenced him to life imprisonment. The convict was also fined Rs150,000.

The court ruled that the prosecution had proved its case and the evidence on record connected the accused with the commission of the offence. The convict, Jawed Khan, had killed a boy Habib Khan on June 22, 1986. He remained in hiding for about 16 years and was arrested a few years ago.

The prosecution claimed that the accused liked a boy Iftikhar who had friendship with Habib Khan. The accused asked Habib Khan to break his friendship with Iftikhar. When Habib Khan did not agree the accused killed him.

The complainant in the case was brother of the deceased Aurangzeb Khan. Asadullah Chamkani advocate appeared for the complainant and argued that there were enough evidence against the accused.

He contended that the complainant was an eyewitness who had seen the accused killing his brother. He added that a cousin of the deceased was also present at the spot. Mr Chamkani argued that the accused remained an absconder for over a decade which also proved his involvement in the offence.
