Ibad for fair TV coverage

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, May 9: Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad called upon the media on Sunday to give unbiased coverage to activities of the government and its coalition parties , because the administration, too, had a viewpoint which, he regretted had too often been played down.

The result is an obvious inability of the people to have a proper appreciation of the government's efforts to strike at the roots of public grievances.

Launching formally the newly-formed Pakistan TV Journalists' Association at the Governor's House here, he suggested that any lack of cooperation or a communication gap between government departments and the print or electronic media should be quickly overcome. There must be proper liaison between the two.

The governor remarked that highlighting the government's weaknesses was welcome, but the media should also give due coverage to the good work done by the administration or by the parties involved in the ruling coalition.

He said he had no hesitation in pointing out that the media often picked up only negative points and overlooked the plus points of a particular story or event. This should be avoided, he said. A balance must be struck in presentation of news and in editorials or comments offered by columnists, he added. -APP
