PESHAWAR: Teachers want varsity posts reserved for educationists

By Our Correspondent

PESHAWAR, May 9: Peshawar University Teachers Association has condemned the appointment of retired army generals on high-profile posts in education department and has urged the government to replace them with educationists.

This was demanded through a resolution adopted by Puta in its meeting held on Saturday. It said that the appointment of retired army generals as vice chancellors of universities and chairmen of education boards amounted to ruining the education system.

The army generals, it said, should be removed immediately and replaced with experts so that the deteriorating condition of education could be improved. Through another resolution adopted unanimously, it expressed concern over the university's condition for the candidates to resign from their present posts before applying for new vacancies announced by the university.

It also expressed concern over the non-convening of the health committee meeting appointed by the provincial government regarding the treatment of the varsity employees at the provincial hospitals.

It said that a meeting of the joint action committee of the all universities would be held on Monday at Puta office, wherein problems relating to association members would be taken up for discussion.
