Heatwave to continue for three days


KARACHI, May 6: The current heatwave in the city will continue for the next three days as it is caused by the suspension of humid winds from the Arabian Sea.

Chief Meteorologist, Arif Mehmood told APP here Thursday that this is a regular feature in May when there is blockade in Arabian Sea breeze for some days that leads to increase in temperature and hot winds blow in the city and its surroundings.

He said very hot and dry day with occasional hot winds are expected on Friday. The maximum temperature will remain between 42 to 44 degrees while on Thursday it went to 43.5 degree centigrade.

He said it was record hot day in the city. In 1938, the city witnessed the record 48 degrees temperature. Most parts of Sindh are in the grip of severe heat wave and it is likely to prevail in Sindh and adjoining areas for another two days.

The maximum temperature in the country was recorded in Nawabshah at 48 degrees. Similarly, maximum temperatures in major cities was: Islamabad 37C, Lahore 40C, Sibbi 45C, Multan 43C and Faisalabad 41C. -APP
