KARACHI: Scholarship cheques issued


KARACHI, May 6: Sindh Education department has dispatched cheques worth Rs2.9 million to various educational institution for awarding scholarships to deserving students for enabling them to acquire further education.

This was told at a meeting of the Endowment Trust Board on Thursday, which was presided over by Sindh Education Minister Irfanullah Marwat. It was pointed out that the Sindh Education Department had set up an endowment fund of Rs400 million and the profit accrued from this investment would be used for providing financial help to the deserving as well as talented students in their studies.

The department had got a profit of Rs2.9 million on an amount of Rs300 million, received by it out of the total amount, which had been disbursed among the students as scholarships, it was further told.

Mr Marwat assured the meeting that the scholarship amount would be distributed in a fair and judicious manner among the talented students, to ensure that they were not deprived of education because of financial constraints.

He said that the Board of Revenue was being approached to avoid any deductions from the scholarship amount in the shape of income tax or bank fee etc. -APP
